A passing thought.......Don't let it past
The Thought
Organizations always look out for great talents, because there is a particular Job waiting to be done. When organizations interview the prospect, all they tell is, how great is the job, and how the atmosphere at the office is fantastic, but the fact remains same. There are still no offices, where the so called "politics" don't exist, and there can be no job which is easy or simple and pays ones well. So what do these big organizations and HR managers must do and importantly when to do it.
A young boy enthusiastic and filled with new ideas joins a big organization. He dreams about his future, how he will rise to the top ranks, by always being on time, and working till late nights. By putting his whole hearted efforts in each project, and tries to bring new insights and latest methods to do a task quickly and efficiently.
He starts getting accolades, getting appreciation and is given more work, different types of work, and he does, all of them with same quality.
But then something happens. He faces wear and tear, and after 6 months in the line, he realizes that he started 20 new projects, out of which 18 never made it to the light of the day because some mid level executive was not ready to do it. The Two which started and was handled, the Mid level Bosses have an opinion about how there were more opportunities in the project, but the person could not execute it. So instead of praising, tell him his shortcomings.
The Super Bosses seems to remain unnoticed, in their own world and thoughts. And then people who sit and do a monotonous job, become friends to the boy, and gives him an advice
" Why work so hard yaar, Thora chill kar, No one works so hard, and even if you do what happens. You saw it na.
People at the top will not be happy.
You know why, because you are asking them to Push, to do something they have never done. They are sitting in their comfortable positions, cozy rooms, why will they like to listen to you. "
Then these so called friends in the organizations ask the multimillion dollar question,
" How much the company has given you growth"?, have they valued you in last 6 months.
Since you are good, they will give you a certificate or two, that's all, any raise, any growth worth writing in resume at least.
Our own growth is long due, same will happen to you".
Now imagine what happens to the so called energetic, enthusiastic, full of idea generating boy?
His mind begins to fill with these thoughts rather than thoughts of ideas and growth, and in No time
you will find these highly energetic young boy, doing one of the Two things
1. If he knows that energy pays he will look for a change.( less than 2 % of the lot)
2. Hanging out with the so called friends and cribbing about the new work or not helping the people ( 98%)
This is the time which organizations need to realize the importance of feeding the right ingredients to the right employees. The pareto principle lies here, 80% of your work is done by 20% of the people. Value those 20% and they will take care of the 80%, and try to keep these 20% happy and running.
So what are the opportunities with the Organization:
1. Praise, there is nothing more valuable than sleeping with the thought that today, I was appreciated by the heads.
2. Value, do small things, give away, a Lunch Coupon with Family of Four. Don't sell yourself short.
It gives an Employee an immense sense of pride to take his/her family for a dinner which is free because of the value he/she creates in the office or at his Job.
3. Give gifts and certificates, even small, which can be kept at the Drawing room/office table.
Its simple theory, a Sony Bravia LCD TV is kept in Drawing Room, while Onida LCD at the Bed room. Understand this.
4. Monitory Benefits: Give cash reward if you can't give raise, even if its 1000/- Rs. It really gives a sense of undiluted joy to give this 1000 Rs in Mom's/Wife's hand. You can't imagine, the smile your Employee will bear at home and office.
There are multiple things, smaller yet important which can stop your Energetic employee to become a part of senseless crowd. And guess what, your actions can help turn this senseless crowd to a productive employee.
Please remember,
No employee is not talented, ( you have chosen him/her), all you need to do is to shake that talent well before use.
and yes
Please Puhlease and real Puhlease, take this as a Gospel of truth,
Opportunities lies in the Man and not in the Job.
