Art vs Effort

The Thought
Most often we hear the employees say," I work so hard still nothing seems important in the eyes of my boss. He/she want something else, and I can't figure out what. I do all that I am asked to, everything thats in my agenda, still the other guy gets the promotion. This company sucks, I am looking forward to another job".

Try standing among the discussion of employees, over a cup of tea and this will be the most common topic of discussion. The problem is not only with the management, but with the employees as well.
The parameter of growth and success for employees is "Effort".
Most employees beleive and live the thought that
" The more effort I put at work, more value I will get from the organization".

This is what used to pay some ten years ago. Now the rules of the game has changed.
Its not the Effot, but "ART" which is paying.
Art is about not looking for orders or doing things as told alone.
Its about doing things which matters, and having the guts to ask why's.

Just imagine, if you can do a task well, and complete everything in your agenda, and never miss a deadline, you are irreplaceable. Right.

And what about this thought

Don’t be irreplaceable. If you can’t be replaced, you can’t be promoted.

A great thought by Amber Naslund, on difference between Indispensable vs. Irreplaceable,( click here to read the post) from Seth Godin's latest book, "Linchpins". You can click here to buy a copy from Amazon.
