Piracy is not Killing Music or Movies
The Thought
One constant ad which keeps on popping now and then is the stop Piracy ad.
Piracy of Movies/music and, the hero/Heroines go on pushing and pleading to us, to stop watching the pirated movies.
You know why they do it, not because, they really want you to enjoy a great quality movie.They do it because they have still not figured out how to stop you from doing it.
Now, let me share a secret with you.
Piracy is not at all killing Music or Movies, instead its Piracy which has promoted it.
More number of people have watched the movies, have listened to more music, than they ever used to do.
So, Piracy has actually promoted great Music and Movies.
The problem which these people want to tell you, but never have the guts to share it with you is
" Piracy is killing Music/Movie Industry"
Its the industry, the money makers who are uncomfortable with the growth of people getting entertainment at such a cheap cost.
Its these people who are not able to crack the model in which they can push people to buy their products.
Movies, is one of the most perishable products, and if you drive traffic by the teasers and by other small details.
Let me share one more secret, Rajshree productions, ( The fame behind Hum Aapkey hain Kaun, Vivaah Likes), are constantly trying to dig the net and remove the pirated movies.
Its a hard joke, all they can do is stop the ones which are currently on and are under your jurisdiction.
Imagine the kind of Manpower is required to maintain that check.
So in fact, they are actually building and promoting a totally new Job Role.
Employees work will be to dig the internet and find new links so as to D-Link them.
and There will be huge money, but, still, the objective will remain the same.
Piracy is not Killing Music/movies, in fact, its Promoting them.
Its the Industry which have no idea how to figure out the massacre' .
So Next time, some actors/Actress tells you, to push on great quality, it makes sense, but if they say, Don't watch pirated movie because its Bad,
go ahead and Download it through any Torrent.

I guess if one puts in so much money in making a film they expect the audience go at a theatre and watch it. And as for pirated music i personally feel its a waste for artists time cuz free music everyone downloads.. i dont listen to gazals and i still download .. for an upcominf artist it is more important to have a dedicated fan following as opposed to more listens.. No doubt artists make more money through concerts but i feel piracy though helps spread it more, doesnt help in long term for a career minded artist..
I tend to disagree Abhinna with your logic here. As I am in Film Industry I know how much effort is gone in making a film both financially and creativity. I will putthe arguments in points that makes clear
1. Any idea of how many daily wage workers are depends during the making of the film and after the film ( More than 100 families)
2. Producers are under huge risks if they dont get minimum guarantee collections
3. Piracy is inevitable and its like a unbeleivable in India, there is no technology or a formula or no policing methods to erridicate or curb it. SO only way to industry wallas is to request it not 2 go for piracy.
I will give you another example, when H1N1 virus attached india was it the disease or the preventoin was more publicised?? Just think once!

@ Shreyamsa: You are Right, but you tend to only see the one part of Emotions. You are clearly of the view that this is hurting the industry, and thats what I said, tis hurting the industry but not the Music.

I agree that Piracy is a Kind of Promotion but it is a Threat for a film maker(Producer) because whenever we produce any thing we expect our return from that, without return there will be no production.Though Piracy Promotes(Free of cost) your product but we can never get any kind of investment return from that.so it is a great source of loss for companies and nobody will like that somebody is using/misusing their NAME & COPYRIGHT for profit.
Today, As People knows that pirated movies/song are available on internet easily.So,they keep on searching for that whole day until and unless they get that and easiest & safe way to get those Movie/Music is TORRENT, you can easily download all those stuff but its risky to post the Pirated Movies/Music on website because its not legal and in that case Govt. can seize your website, which is another kind of loss for a Website owner.
In Future,If Piracy provides some amount of returns to producer then it will be the best way of Promotion but still there will be some drawbacks that your customer will not get the Good quality product as in today scenerio Customer satisfaction is an essential part of companies.
